If you’re an employer in Doncaster, then read on to learn about the wage subsidy scheme and how it could benefit your organisation.

To be eligible* as an organisation for funding you’ll have:

  • full-time and part-time jobs available
  • an interest in supporting inclusive recruitment
  • a skills shortage/gaps
  • hard to fill vacancies
  • an opportunity for a young person to the gain skills and develop a career?
  • a location in South Yorkshire; or, for organisations with a head office outside South Yorkshire, an operation located within
  • the ability to meet financial, insurance and reputational criteria
  • official registration as a business or charity
  • fewer than 100 employees
  • employment opportunities that are expected to last more than six months

*Organisations will have opportunity to access a maximum of five funded placements.

What is the wage subsidy scheme?

The South Yorkshire Internship Programme exists with ambitions to provide a structured pathway into sustained employment - it supports employers to recruit young people who are currently not in employment or training; offering them a paid job role for up to three months that is intended to lead to sustainable employment.

To be eligible to participate in the wage subsidy programme, individuals need to meet all the criteria below:

  • aged 16 – 30
  • not in employment, education or training, and not mandated to look for work
  • a resident in South Yorkshire
  • a Pathways to Work participant

The scheme offers a 12-week (maximum) wage subsidy for real jobs:

  • a sustainable job - minimum of 16-hours per week, funded to a maximum of 35-hours per week*
  • must pay at least the National Minimum Wage for the employee’s age group
  • must only require basic training
  • employability support will be offered to each candidate

*Funding excludes associated tax, NI or pension costs.
